Christmas Break Activities

We have a lot of fun things planned for the December school break.  Check it out:

Tues. Dec. 27th - 10:00am - Movie Morning - "The Smurfs"
     Chased out of their village by the evil wizard Gargamel, the tiny blue Smurfs tumble from their magical world into ours.  Can the Smurfs find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down?  Join us and find out.


Wed. Dec. 28th - 2:00pm - "Fancy Nancy Party" 
     For ages 5 and up.  Come dressed in your finest attire for a program of crafts, games and delectable refreshments.  Registration is required for this program.

Thurs. Dec. 28th - 2:00pm - "Lego Afternoon"
     For ages 6 and up.  Join us for an hour of building fun.  We'll provide the Legos, you provide the creativity.  Registration is required for this program.

Fri. Dec. 30th - 11:00am - "Family Story Time"
     For ages 3 to 6.  Come enjoy a program of winter stories, songs and rhymes.

Teen Read Week 2011

Calling all teens, Oct. 16th - 22nd is YOUR week, Teen Read Week.  The American Library Association is inviting you to participate in a variety of ways:

  • Meet Jay Asher, 2011 Teen Read Week Spokesperson!
  • Learn more about Gareth Hinds, the artist who created the artwork for Teen Read Week this year.
  • Tune in on Monday to see who won the Teens' Top Ten this year.  The winners will be announced at a video presentation at www.ala.org.teenstopten.
  • Enter the Teen Read Week photo contest.  The contest is open through Oct. 31! Teens 13-18 can create a photo representing their favorite book and win signed books or an e-reader loaded with teen titles, courtesy Penguin Books for Young Readers! The contest will be judged by Jay Asher, 2011 Teen Read Week spokesperson.
  • Vote for next year's Teen Read Week theme! Voting will open at www.ala.org/teenread and YALSA's Facebook page starting on Sunday. The options are: Devour a Book @ your library; It Came from the Library!; and It Was a Dark and Stormy Night @ your library. The vote will be online all through TRW.  The winning theme will be announced in early November.
  •  And of course, don't forget to READ!

Time to Nominate Your Favorite Book!

It's that time again, time to nominate YOUR favorite book for the New York State 3 Apples Book Award.  Did you read something great over the summer?  Is there a book that you're telling all your friends about?  Is there a special book that you want Mom or Dad to read to you over and over again?  Then nominate it!  This is your chance to let everyone in New York state to know what it is.

Kids ages 3 to 8, PreK-Gr.2 can nominate their favorite book for the Young Reader's Choice Award.  Kids aged 8-12, in grades 3-6 can nominate for the Children's Choice Award and kids can nominate for the Teen Choice Award.

Nominations will be accepted at the library until Oct. 29th.  The top 15 books in each category will be announced in November and will become the ballot for next year's awards.  Voting for the winner from each of the lists will be held in April 2012 and the winners will be announced  in May.

Stop in and nominate your favorite today!

It's hard to believe that a week from today is the kids will be back in school!  Where did the summer go?  We had another great one here at the library and hope you did too.  If the new school year is here that means that the fall session of Story Times at the library is right around the corner too.

Registration
for the Preschool Story Times for children ages 3 to 5 will begin on Tues. Sept. 6th. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 10:15 - 10:45 and afternoons from 1:00 - 1:30.  The classes begin on Sept. 20th and run for ten weeks.

Mother Goose Time for babies 0-18 months will be held on Monday mornings at 10:30am and begins on Sept. 19th.  These are drop-in sessions, no registration is required.

Toddler Time for little ones 18-36 months will be held on Thursday and Friday mornings from 10:30 to 10:50am.  These sessions begin on Sept. 29th.  These are also drop-in sessions, no registration is required.

End of Summer Reading Program Celebration

The minutes have been entered and counted, the activity days are over; it was a great summer here at the library.  We hope you had a great time too.  To celebrate all the good reading you did over the summer we want to invite you to one last guaranteed great program.

Join us on Thursday, Aug. 18th at 11:00am for our End-of-Summer Reading Program Celebration featuring magician Jim Bush.  He'll amaze, amuse and mystify you at this fun magic show. 

No registration is required for this program.

First Flat Stanley Sightings!



Flat Stanley has been spotted having a lot of fun with the Prescott family.



He's been to the Renaissance Festival, Marine Land and Niagara Falls!

Summer Reading Sign-Up Begins Today

Mrs. Madden and "Flat Stanley" visited the Victor Primary School today and talked to the kids about the Summer Reading Program.

2011 Summer Reading Progam

It's Memorial Day weekend again!  That means summer is right around the corner.  We've got another fun summer planned, filled with lots of reading and activities for the whole family.

This year's theme is "One World, Many Stories".  Check out the Summer Reading Program page for all the details.
