Christmas Break Activities for Kids

We have a variety of activities planned for the upcoming school break week.

On Tues. Dec. 28th at 10:00am we will be showing the movie "Despicable Me". Kids are invited to bring along a snack and a drink and take a break from all the holiday craziness.

On Wed. Dec. 29th at 11:00am kids ages 3 and up are invited to join Mrs. Durham for a Family Story Time program of winter stories, songs and fun.

On Thurs. Dec. 30th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm we will be holding a First Aid Basics for Kids program presented by EPIC Trainings. Kids ages 8-15 will learn how to recognize and act responsibly in a variety of emergency situations. Through demonstrations and hands on exercises they will learn first aid basics. Every student will receive a first aid trainer kit and certification card. Registration is required for this program. The cost is $10 and is due at the time of registration.

November Saturday Special

Kids ages 5 & up are invited to join us tomorrow morning at 11:00am for our November Saturday Special. We will be sharing stories of "thanks and giving" followed by a simple craft.

The program is free but we're encouraging kids to bring along something to donate to the Victor Farmington Food Cupboard.

October's Saturday Special

This month's Saturday Special will be a Halloween Party for kids ages 5 & up. It will be held on Sat. Oct. 23rd in the library's Malone Meeting Room from 11:00 -12:00.

Kids are encouraged to come in costume for a program of stories, games and crafts.

No registration is required.

Family Story Time

We will be holding our monthly Family Story Time tomorrow evening, Oct. 14th at 7:00pm. This month's theme is "Scarecrow Fun".

Yoga Story Time

Our first Saturday Special will be held on Sept. 18th from 11:00 -12:00.

Saturday Specials
is a new program at the library beginning this fall. Geared for all ages, these programs will include special events, activities and story times.


Our September Saturday Special will be a Yoga Story Time presented by the staff of the Victor Yoga Studio. This program is for kids ages 5 to 9 and space is limited, so registration is required. To register stop in at the library or call 585-924-2637.

Fall Story Times

It's hard to believe that a week from today is the first day of school! Where did the summer go? We had a great one here at the library and hope you did too. If the new school year is here that means that the fall session of Story Times at the library is right around the corner too.

Registration
for the Preschool Story Times for children ages 3 to 5 will begin on Tues. Sept. 7th. Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings from 10:15 - 10:45 and Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 - 1:30 and Wednesday mornings from 10:15 - 10:45 and 11:15 - 11:45. The classes begin on Sept. 21st and run for ten weeks.

Toddler Time
our eight week lap-sit program for children ages 18 to 36 months and their parents or caregivers will be held on Thursday mornings 10:30 - 10:50 and 11:30 - 11:50 and Friday mornings 10:00 - 10:20. These are drop-in sessions, no registration is required. Classes begin on Sept. 30th.

Mother Goose Time is a lap-sit program for babies, 0-18 months and their parents or caregivers. These sessions are held on Monday mornings at 10:30 and are followed by an open playtime for the babies. These are also drop-in sessions, no registration is required. Classes begin on Sept. 27th.

Summer Reading Wrap-Up

This is the last official day of the 2010 Summer Reading Program. It went fast and was a lot of fun. We'll be posting pictures from the various programs, so keep checking back.

We have one more program scheduled for this coming Wed., Aug. 11th at 11:00am. "Airplay" a local juggling, uni-cycling, acrobatic team will be presenting their high energy, fun-filled show for all our summer readers. No registration is required for this program.

There's still time to log in your reading minutes to qualify for our summer reading prizes. The last day to log in minutes is Friday, Aug. 13th. The winners will be announced on Mon. Aug. 16th.

The last day to pick up certificates and final prizes is Aug. 30th.

Change of Plans

The movie scheduled for this coming Friday, July 30th has been changed to "The Land Before Time: Journey to Big Water".

When heavy rains create a mysterious "new water", Littlefoot sets off to explore the great Valley. He quickly becomes friends with Mo, a prank-playing dolphin-like creature who can't find his way back to the big water. Littlefoot and his prehistoric pals come to the rescue, evade a scary sharptooth and prove the value of courage, friendship and diversity in this exciting adventure.

This movie will be shown at 10:00 a.m. in the Malone Meeting Room. Bring along a snack and a drink and join us for this fun family film.

Magic Program Scheduled at the Library

Magician David Moreland aka "Cap'n Dave" will be visiting the library on Tuesday, July 13th at 10:00am.

His show, a combination of magic, comedy, mystery and audience participation is geared for children ages 4-10, but all ages are welcome.


Every child who attends the show will receives a free bookmark and magical gift from Cap'n Dave and will have a chance to win one of several Moreland the Magician Magic Sets.


This program is free and no registration is required.

April Family Reading Night

To celebrate April as National Poetry Month, the theme for the next Family Reading Night will be "Fun With Poetry". Kids in grades K-3 and their parents are invited to join us on Thurs. April 8th at 6:30pm for some rhyme time fun.

March Family Reading Night

This month we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss at our Family Reading Night. Join us on Thurs. Mar. 11th at 6:30 for "Dr. Seuss on the Loose". We will be reading some favorite Dr. Seuss stories, playing some Seuss related reading games and even writing our own Dr. Seuss story!

Music Time at the Library and Winter Closings

We are scheduled to have Music Time at the Library tomorrow morning (Feb. 26th). If the Victor Schools are closed tomorrow we will cancel our program also. We will reschedule at future date.

Music Time at the Library

The library is giving babies and toddlers, ages infants to 2 years, a chance to experience the fun and magic of music this coming Friday, Feb. 26th at 11:00am. Children and their caregivers are invited to come to the library to dance, sing and play instruments.

Tara Sulecki, teacher and owner of "Music To Grow On" will be leading the class.

Story Times for Babies and Toddlers Begin Next Week

Mother Goose Time, our lap-sit program for babies 0-18 months and their parents or caregivers, begins on Monday, Feb.22nd. Held at 10:30am, Mother Goose Time is a program of rhymes, songs, finger plays and simple stories.

Each class lasts about 20 minutes and is followed by an open play time. This is a drop-in program, no registration is required.




Toddler Time for children ages 18-36 months and a parent or caregiver begins on Thursday, Feb. 25th. There will be two classes offered on Thursdays, 10:30 - 10:50 and 11:30 -11:50. The Friday morning class which will be held from 10:00 - 10:20 will begin on Mar. 5th.

Toddler Time is an eight week lap-sit program that consists of stories, finger plays, flannel board rhymes and songs. This is now a drop-in program, no registration is required.

February Break Activities

Check out the programs we have planned for kids during the upcoming February break!

On Mon. Feb. 15th at 10:00am we will be showing the movie "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs". It's the story of Flint, a clever young inventor with a reputation for creations gone awry. He has recently completed a machine that he claims will turn water into food. However, like his past failed inventions, Flint's new food-converting machine doesn't work as planned.

Bring along a snack and a drink and see if Flint can straighten things out. No registration is required for this program.

On Tues. Feb. 16th at 2:00pm kids ages 6 and up are invited to the library for some Lego fun. Come see how creative you can be. We'll provide the Legos, you provide the imagination. Registration is required for this program.

A Family Story Time will be held on Wed. Feb. 17th at 11:00am. Children ages 3 to 6 are invited to this program of stories and songs. No registration is required for this program.

On Thurs. Feb. 18th our therapy dogs friends will be stopping in to share some reading time with kids in Kindergarten and above. They will be available throughout the day, so stop in to register for your time slot.

Family Reading Night

February Family Reading Night, for kids in grades k-3 and their parents, will be held this Thurs., Feb. 11th from 6:30 - 7:30pm.

This month we will be doing some Olympic Reading. Join us for some winter sports stories and play a few reading games. Earn a medal for all your hard work.

This Year's Winners

On Monday the American Library Association announced the top books, video and audiobooks for children and young adults - including the Caldecott, King, Newbery and Printz awards - at its Midwinter Meeting in Boston.

The John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature was awarded to Rebecca Stead for When You Reach Me.

The Randolph Caldecott Medal for the moist distinguished American picture book was awarded to Jerry Pinkney for The Lion and the Mouse.

The Michael L. Printz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults was awarded to Libba Bray for her novel Going Bovine.

The Coretta Scott King Book Award recognizes and African American author and illustrator of outstanding books for children and young adults. This year the King Author book winner is Vaunda Micheaux Nelson for the book Bad News for Outlaws: The Remarkable Life of Bass Reeves, Deputy U.S. Marshal. My People, illustrated by Charles R. Smith Jr. and written by Langston Hughes, is the King Illustrator Book winner.

Family Reading Night

Our monthly Family Reading Night, a program for children in grades K-3 and their parents, resumes this Thurs. Jan. 14th at 6:30pm.

This month we will be having some "Fairy Tale Fun". Come listen to some classic fairy tales and some new ones with a twist. Test your knowledge of fairy tales and play some fairy tale games.

This program will last an hour and registration is required. Stop by the library to register or call 585-924-2637.

Winter-Spring Story Times

Story Time sessions are right around the corner! Here's the schedule for the winter-spring series of story times at the library.

Mother Goose Time is for babies 0-18 months and a parent or caregiver.
Sessions are held on Monday mornings at 10:30. Sessions last 20 minutes followed by an open play time .

No registration is required for this program. Begins Feb. 22nd.


Toddler Time is for children ages 18-36 months and a parent or caregiver.
Classes are held on Thursday mornings 10:30-10:50 or 11:30-11:50 and Friday mornings 10:00-10:20.
